19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on court had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
